sounds weird for newbie like me. What if DHT is disabled? Also not everyone will have a seedbox. Public torrents help to increase ratio on private when its not possible to do that on private itself. And how to use the IPfilter in torrent software.

A friend of mine got nailed using TL downloading a movie with ~65 peers... I would avoid them, at least for the time being...
I have had this happen to me 3 times, once on piratebay and twice on demonoid. All were movies. I basically told my ISP I deleted the file then everything was fine. Now i only download movies from private trackers and havent had a problem yet.
I forgot to add in my above post that I was also given a warning downloading a movie off of TL. I think its solid advice to be wary what you decide to snatch on there.
I also had to delete the file.
I would definitely avoid TPB, but thats me.
I always thought that people get a little too paranoid about such things, but I'm starting to have second thoughts about it. Many thanks!
Thanks for the heads up. Never dl'ed from TL so all is good i guess so far. I do demonoid often though.
If you're on this website, you torrent enough to really start considering precautions..
Seedbox, proxy, VPN, hell even forcing encryption on uTorrent traffic is a start.
To paraphrase what staffrodore said, if you're a dumbass you probably deserve it ;).

Woah that's agressive from Sony... I've almost never seen USERS being directly ''annoyed'' by companies... Of course Reseller, Uploaders and site owners but users? That's rare... But as most said, public tracker are probably not the best place to go for security (and most of the time quality...).
Any of you ever heard about users targeted like that?
Thanks for the heads up, but luckily I live in Canada and our laws are a little more lax :D
